Another healing by Elgin Decatur rattles Dr. Kate Magee. This time it’s her patient, a boy with terminal cancer and the son of a US Senator. A bad day stretches into a bad week due to a nosy reporter, the now public news that Elgin did time for the murder of his wife, and the personal transformation he attributes to his nine-day coma. Most troubling, Elgin is an old flame from high-school, and Kate still can’t resist him.
Against her better judgement, Kate agrees to go along with Elgin on a six-day hike on the Appalachian Trail with five other mismatched souls, all desperate for Elgin’s healing touch. The hike is more than she bargains for. Someone is stalking the group while one of the hikers grows increasingly unhinged. Ignoring her daughter’s pleas to come home, and her own moral objections to Elgin’s unconventional “therapy,” Kate traverses deeper into unknown territory. Her motive to stop Elgin is soon clouded by her enduring passion for the charismatic man and the secret she carries with her.
Just as Kate’s disappointment in Elgin’s inability to heal anyone grows – and her own exhaustion leads to resignation – tragedy strikes beyond Kate’s worst fears.
Can Kate put her faith in Elgin’s hands?
