Who is Author Frank Prem? A brief bio.

I live in a pretty little place called Beechworth, which is in Victoria, in South Eastern Australia. My professional life has involved me growing up with and later working as a Psychiatric Nurse here and there around the state. I’m still working in that capacity at the tender age of … well never mind too much about that.

All the while – for over 40 years – I have been writing and developing my skills as a free verse poet and storyteller, with a great love of reading to audiences and a secret desire to get at least one of my books on every bedside table in the land. A touch megalomanic, I know, but I now have two books, with more to come, so it could happen!

What’s your latest book all about?

The latest book is called Devil In The Wind, and it is a collection of free verse poetry that is the voices of victims and survivors of our catastrophic bushfires  of 2009, a decade ago now, but with the trauma still raw, right across the population.

I believe we, in Victoria, are in the grip of an ongoing form of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder brought on by those fires, and it is my hope that this little book might contribute to healing.

How did you get the idea of writing this book?

I felt that I had no choice but to write the poems in the Devil In The Wind. The stories were so intense and raw that I needed to write them as I heard them or encountered them.

Most of the poems were written as the events were unfolding or just after. Some are as I heard them reported at the Commission of Inquiry that followed.
