But when the Alliance denies Hyrath’s claim on the planet of Kavil and declares war on their world, Aden finds his plans in disarray. Entrenched in battle and told he won’t make captain, Aden’s world begins to collapse. How will he salvage his career and future during Hyrath’s darkest hour?

How did you get the idea of writing this book?

I wanted to explore beyond the Cassan universe. The idea came from a song by Ayreon called Dragon on the Sea. The song is about Queen Elizabeth sending Sir Francis Drake out to defend England against an invading army. The chorus resonated with me – Sail on for your queen, Sail into history, You will never be the same… How could the main character sail into history and never be the same? That is when I came up with the idea for a ship called the Dragon. I was also inspired by a tough little creature called a tardigrade and created a much larger and tougher creature called a Kargrande. All of it comes together with a nice twist in the end!
